Glo Fiber fiber optic cable/internet access coming to VAW

April 4, 2024  This is the text of the letter that went out to our email subscribers yesterday. Some residents aren't subscribed, and some have been having issues with Cox email addresses due to maintenance on the part of Cox. Note that there will be an opportunity to meet about this on Tuesday, April 9, at 5:30 at the Clubhouse.

Hello from the VAW Board

You should have received a Door Tag from glofiber this week and as most of you have observed there are
conduit and other materials in the parking lot of the Clubhouse. In addition, the roads and easements of
homes within the Oxford Village have been marked with flags and paint.

I reached out to glofiber yesterday and received a call back with information that should help each of us
understand what is going on within the Villages at Westminster.

  • Glofiber has been contracted by the state of Virginia and James City County (JCC) to install fiber optic cable in the Villages at Westminster.
    • The contract and bond was approved by the state of Virginia.
  • Glofiber is laying fiber optic cable in Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.
    • They are currently installing in Fords Colony and RT 60.
  • The state and JCC have handled the marking of all power/gas lines and are using paint and flags for those markings.
  • They will be installed in the roads (VDOT is fully aware) and the easement of each property.
  • For many homeowners you may not realize what the size of the JCC easement is on your property. You can go to the JCC website and print out a plat of your property and it will show you the easement.
  • As Cox Communications has been the only provider for about 35 years in JCC this will allow you to have an option as to your internet provider, tv and phone service.
    • You can go to their website to see the different plans that are going to be offered.
  • I was told yesterday that all yards and roadways will be restored to their existing condition prior to laying the fiber.
  • I was also told that once they start the work they will lay approximately 1000 feet per day...weather permitting as always.

If you have any specific questions you can also reach out to glofiber at 1-866-997-6474.

A Town Hall Meeting will be held at the Clubhouse on Tuesday, April 9th at 5:30pm. A representative from glofiber, Steven Emerson, will be at the meeting to further discuss the process and answer any questions you may have.

Sincerely,
Kelly Coronel
